Local Area
Uluru - aka: Ayers Rock - sits in Australia’s red centre within the southern section of the Northern Territory. This massive sandstone monolith is sacred to aboriginal people and has become a world-famous Australian icon and protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The closest town, Alice Springs, is situated 335kms to the northeast and it’s roughly a 17-hour drive northwest from Adelaide. Most folk choose to fly into Ayers Rock Airport from Sydney or Melbourne via Alice Springs. Flights take just under four hours.
On arrival you can organise a transfer from the airport to accommodation at Ayers Rock Resort. This purpose-built resort town has several different hotel complexes where you can stay for a few nights and organise tours in and around the area. Desert Gardens Hotel is the only place to stay that offers views over Uluru from guest rooms and verandas.
