Are Saga European holidays coach tours?
Our European holidays can be split into three categories: escorted tours, Hosted Holidays and special interest holidays.
Escorted tours are group tours, where you’ll often travel by coach (but not always – some tours are on small ships, for example, others include rail travel or ocean cruises). These well-paced itineraries are planned to perfection, and expertly led by a friendly, knowledgeable tour manager.
Hosted Holidays are European hotel holiday packages where you’ll enjoy flights, transfers and a hotel stay, with a dedicated Saga host on hand at the hotel for advice or recommendations for excursions, dining out and getting around.
Our special interest holidays are, as the name suggests, themed around a particular interest or passion, from birdwatching to bridge. You’ll have flights, transfers and a hotel stay included, plus a selection of excursions tailored to that interest – a food and drink holiday in Italy, for example, might include cooking classes, wine tastings and tours of local food markets. You’ll be led by a specialist host, who’ll be an expert in their field.
What can I expect from a European coach tour?
The itineraries of our escorted tours vary, but they’ll always begin and end with a VIP door-to-door transfer – a chauffeur-driven vehicle that’ll take you (and your luggage) between your home and your departure airport.
During the holiday, you’ll have a mix of included excursions and free time, during which there are often optional excursions available. You’ll sometimes have included meals, either at your hotel or at a local restaurant; where meals aren’t included, your tour manager will be able to point you in the direction of some great local spots to try. Our online itineraries include all the information you’ll need to know, from the details and timings of excursions to the meals that’ll be included each day.
How big are the Saga European escorted tours?
Our small group tours in Europe have a maximum group size of 24. Any tours not part of our small group collection will have a maximum group size of around 40-50.
What’s included in a European holiday package?
Our European holidays all include flights (with luggage), resort transfers, hotel accommodation and a Saga host or tour manager.
Escorted tours will also include VIP door-to-door transfers in the UK and all excursions and meals as detailed in the itinerary.
Hosted Holidays and special interest holidays will also include some meals (you’ll find details of your hotel’s board basis on the hotel webpage) and travel insurance. Any included excursions will be detailed on the webpage for your chosen holiday.
Are Saga European holidays all-inclusive?
Many of our Hosted Holidays (and a handful of our escorted tours) are all-inclusive, meaning you’ll have all meals included, plus selected drinks and snacks. Some will be half-board, which means you’ll have breakfast and dinner included. There are often extras, too, like afternoon tea or a glass of wine with dinner – check the ‘Including’ section of your chosen holiday online or call us to see what’s included.
Do Saga holidays to Europe all include transport from the UK?
Yes, all of our European holidays include transport from the UK (usually by plane, though a handful of Hosted Holidays include ferry travel instead). Escorted tours also include VIP door-to-door transfers, which take you from home to your UK departure airport.
Do you offer any multi-city holidays in Europe?
We offer some fantastic holidays that combine European cities. On the escorted tour side, try Grand Tour of Italy (which includes visits to Venice, Florence, Rome, Siena and Bologna, among others), Portugal and Spain – A Tale of Two Cultures (Porto, Lisbon, Madrid and Barcelona) or Vienna, Prague and Budapest for a wonderful introduction to Eastern Europe.
For Hosted Holidays, San Sebastian and Bilbao pairs two wonderful Spanish cities. There are also twin-centre holidays that include a city and a beach resort, such as Istanbul and the Turkish Riviera.
Are Saga European holidays adults only?
We only accept bookings for adults, though most of the hotels we use for our Hosted Holidays are not adults only, so there might be families with children staying there. If you’re looking for an adults-only hotel, try H10 Playa Esmeralda in Fuerteventura or the Occidental Roca Negra in Gran Canaria.
Our escorted tours are operated by our sister company, Titan Travel, which accepts travellers over the age of 12.
Are Saga’s Europe tours good for over 60s travellers?
Our European group tours are for over 50s* (over 40s if you’re travelling with someone over 50), and they’re suitable for travellers in their 60s, 70s and beyond. Each tour is given a rating of 1-3, which will give you an indication of the pace – 1 is a ‘leisurely pace’, 2 is a ‘moderate pace’ and ‘3’ is a ‘faster pace’. Our team are more than happy to help if you have any questions or worries about whether a particular European tour is for you.
*Tours are operated by Titan Travel, which accepts any traveller over the age of 12, so although we only take bookings from over 50s, there may be younger guests in your group.
