Sails in the Desert
Hand-Picked Hotel
Desert oasis with swimming pool and indigenous art gallery, situated within Ayers Rock Resort
Set within the confines of Ayers Rock Resort, Sails in the Desert presents 288 guest rooms and suites all of which include their own private outdoor space. It’s the perfect place to kick back and relax in Australia’s red centre whilst shaded under soaring white canopies.
Thanks to the location, close to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, this is where folk head for gumtree bordered swimming pools, Red Ochre Spa treatments and excursions in and around the world-famous rock. You’ll also find the brasserie-style Ilkari restaurant, on-site, alongside indigenous-inspired cuisine served at the Walpa lobby lounge.
From free bus transfers around the resort’s restaurants and cafes to local artwork at the Mulgara Gallery and cocktails by the pool – if you’re looking to experience Uluru, in style, Sails in the Desert gives you every opportunity to do that, and then some.

Local Area
Uluru, which is formerly known as Ayers Rock, is located in Australia’s red centre within the Northern Territory. It’s an incredibly important spiritual site for aboriginal people as well as being an iconic symbol of Australia and designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The nearest town, Alice Springs, is located just over 330kms to the northeast and it will take you around thirty hours to drive from Sydney via Adelaide. Which is why most people choose the four-hour indirect flight to Ayers Rock Airport from Sydney or Melbourne.
Upon touch down you can transfer to Ayers Rock Resort - 53kms from Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This purpose-built resort town has different hotels and campsites and organises cultural tours in and around the area. Sails in the Desert is one such luxurious desert oasis featuring swimming pools, cocktail bars and shaded white sail canopies.
