Holiday location
Local Area
Thanks to the totally tropical location, Cairns’ beaches are some of the best in Queensland. There are numerous sandy suburbs stretching out from the city centre with Trinity and Palm Cove pretty much the closest. Palm Cove, especially, is picture perfect with palm trees, beachside cafés and a pedestrianised esplanade the place to be in summer.
Of course, it’s not just Cairns’ beaches that attract travellers to this stretch of northeast Australia. This is where you’ve got the best chance of taking a boat tour of the Great Barrier Reef and trekking through Daintree Rainforest – the oldest rainforest on earth.
Cairns’ city centre is also just down the road with an art gallery, history museum and botanical garden all conjuring up day trip ideas if you get tired of all that sand between your toes.
