Set in glorious grounds, with centuries of history, stunning countryside and traditional British seaside locations on their doorsteps, university campuses have some of the greatest locations in the UK.

And it’s not only students who can enjoy them.

Earlier this year, Saga launched their university and college holidays where you can make the most of exploring these fantastic cities over the summertime, after the students had departed for their summer holidays

They make great destinations for a short break, a gateway to exploring a different part of the country, and excellent value for those travelling alone, with friends or as a couple. A Saga host is there to greet guests, host a welcome drinks reception, and be available to help throughout the holidays.

The inaugural season included stays at the universities of Chichester, Falmouth (Penryn) and Essex as well as Kings College Canterbury.

These proved so popular that for 2027 we have expanded to four more celebrated university cities: Brighton, Lincoln, Lancaster and Stirling.

The accommodation is all conveniently located, making the perfect base from which to explore the cities and surroundings by foot. Each destination has its own unique culture, geography and history, so there is plenty to do and explore.

For campuses outside the main city, there are great public transport links. There are two included excursions on each stay, when customers can explore the must-see sites as a group, together with your host.

Student accommodation has come a long way in recent years. Forget any lingering images of grotty digs.

All rooms are sole occupancy, they provide comfortable en-suite accommodation. Half board meals where breakfast and dinner are included, along with lounge and bar facilities, some of which are exclusive to Saga customers. You’ll also enjoy two evenings of live entertainment, a perfect opportunity to relax and have fun with fellow guests.

Stirling

University of Stirling Campus

Stirling’s campus is described as one of the most beautiful in Britain, sitting within 330 acres of glorious parkland that incorporates a Loch, and the 18th-century Airthrey Castle. It is set against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. Stirling is known as the “Gateway to the Highlands.”

From the campus, you can venture into the city, towered over by its magnificent castle on Castle Hill, peruse the shops in the atmospheric Old Town, and soak up Scotland’s dramatic history at Stirling Bridge, the Wallace Monument and the Bannockburn Museum.

It is also the perfect starting point for exploring Scotland’s astounding natural beauty via scenic villages, meandering rivers, rolling hills and soaring mountains. The summer months are the perfect time to enjoy excursions in the stunning highland landscapes.

Included excursions: Stirling Castle and Drummond Castle and Gardens.

Brighton's Royal Pavilion

Brighton

University of Sussex campus

Once a sleepy fishing town, Brighton was put firmly on the map when the Prince Regent, George IV, built the iconic Brighton Pavilion there, completed in 1823. This fantastical pleasure-dome with its opulent interiors, lavish furnishings and objets d’art is a must-visit.

Wander through Regency squares and crescents and along Brighton’s famous Lanes, a maze of narrow alleys, squares and intriguing shops. Brighton is famously foodie, with restaurants, cafes and cocktail bars aplenty. So, stop for a bite, and a drink, and stroll along the seafront to take in the sea air and sights, such as the celebrated pier.

The campus is in Falmer, four miles east of central Brighton and there are regular and frequent bus services into the city.

Included excursions: Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens, and Brighton Royal Pavillion.

Lincoln

University of Lincoln campus

The campus is in the heart of the city and set on the scenic Brayford waterfront, England’s oldest inland harbour built by the Romans, with bars, restaurants, and outdoor seating making it a vibrant, lively spot but with plenty of green space and nature.

Lincoln is a city steeped in history. Dating back two millennia, as you walk along its cobbled streets you will find traces of its past everywhere, from Roman ruins to the magnificent Medieval Cathedral and castle, to Tudor landmarks such as the magnificent Guildhall and the half-timbered houses. Beyond the city you can explore Lincoln’s gently rolling hills, sweeping vistas, chalk streams and woodlands.

Included excursions: Doddington Hall and Gardens, and International Bomber Command Centre.

The campus is set in nearly 600 acres of glorious parkland at Bailrigg, three miles from Lancaster city centre on what was once a Romano-British settlement. There are woodlands, fields, and an ornamental lake.

It is a short bus ride into the historic city, with its imposing 1,000-year-old medieval castle, cobbled streets, bustling shops and lively arts scene. Visit the Maritime Museum, the City Museum and the Judges’ Lodgings, a beautiful 17th-century townhouse filled with exquisite furniture – and said to be haunted.

From the Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park just outside the city, there are sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, across to Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland Fells and mountains.

Included excursions: Windermere Lake Cruise, and Gresgarth Hall and Gardens.
