Local Area
Zion National Park is situated in southwest Utah, about a three-hour drive northeast from Las Vegas. It’s a stunning natural centre for sandstone canyons and sheer red cliffs. These fascinating landscapes have been weather eroded over eons and carved out by the constant flow of the Virgin River, a tributary of the mighty Colorado River.
Stay close by in somewhere like Springdale and you can take advantage of free shuttle services heading to the Zion National Park visitor centre. From here you’ll find plenty of opportunities to join organised tours as well as every excuse to enjoy independent walks.
The Watchman Trail, for example, is ideal for getting your bearings. It’s got a gentle gradient made all the easier thanks to several soft twists and turns. Surrounding desert plants and flowers accompany views over Bridge Mountain and Watchman Peak. Just don’t forget sensible footwear, sun hat and shades if you’re planning to hike in the area.
