Scottsdale is situated just a 30min drive northeast of Phoenix. It’s one of a handful of cities in Arizona that appear from the Sonoran Desert like shimmering air-conditioned oases.
Head downtown and you’ll find a good range of restaurants along the waterfront. There’s also an Old Town area where art galleries, boutique stores and shopping centres sit either side of the Arizona Canal. This is a sophisticated and modern city with ample opportunities to find out more about the history and culture of western America.
