Local Area
Scottsdale is situated just a 30min drive northeast of Phoenix. It’s one of a handful of cities in Arizona that appear from the Sonoran Desert like shimmering air-conditioned oases.
Head downtown and you’ll find a good range of restaurants along the waterfront. There’s also an Old Town area where art galleries, boutique stores and shopping centres sit either side of the Arizona Canal. This is a sophisticated and modern city with ample opportunities to find out more about the history and culture of western America.
For all Scottsdale’s downtown attractions, it’s what’s outside the city limits that folk tend to favour the most. This is where you’ll find the golf courses, day spas and waterpark resorts. Follow the trail north and it’s the desert and mountain landscapes that steal the show. Take a hot air balloon ride over the McDowell Mountains and you’ll get the idea.
