Route 66 - The Mother Road
After kicking up your heels in Chicago for a couple of days, you’ll pick up a rental car and head south through Illinois and down into Missouri. By now you’ll be feeling the freedom of the open road as you pull into small towns and stop for the night at a series of hand-picked hotels. This is what makes a self-drive holiday; the freedom to please yourselves during the day but with the convenience of knowing where you’ll be staying each night. Once you arrive in Oklahoma, you’ll get a real sense of what the Mother Road is all about. This is the start of the trail that took the Dust Bowl farmers of America’s Midwest to the sunny state of California in search for work. You’ll find out more as you experience Amarillo and Albuquerque as well as learning about the Native American Pueblo people and the Spanish colonial history of New Mexico. From neon-lit motels and dusty gas stations to vintage cars and legendary tales, this is going to be one heck of a ride and right here’s where you buckle up and hit the road. There’s no better way to experience Route 66 other than to live it from start to finish, and this 18-day epic road trip really does let you do just that.
